Banning gmail.com

pixelfed.de is banning signups from gmail.com email addresses.

From today you will no longer be able to register an account using a gmail.com email address.

During the last few days I have seen hundreds of spam signups originating from gmail.com, and during the last few months I have seen zero legitimate signups from gmail.com addresses.

gmail.com is a spammers harbour. Thus pixelfed.de will not send out any mails to gmail.com anymore. That means you cannot sign up for a new account, as your activation mail will never arrive.

This also means, for existing users, that you will not be able to recover your password! If you’re using a gmail.com for your active non-spammy pixelfed account I suggest you either do not forget your password, or change your email to some other provider before you forget your password.

If you really need to set up a new account on a gmail email address, please complete the sign up, then either send a DM on Mastodon or a mail, an click “request manual validation” after doing so.

But seriously, it’s way easier just to use any other mail provider.
